2012 nissan leaf review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-electric compact commutes up to 100 miles. introductionthe nissan leaf was the first mass-production all-electric vehicle to go on sale in the u. For the 2011 model year. Nissan says leaf is an acronym for low emission automobile of the future.  the promise of the leaf is an operating range of 100 miles, a top speed of 90 mph, and a 0-60 acceleration time of about 7 seconds flat. With ordinary house current, the leaf will charge up overnight. However, that word tailpipe is important because no vehicle is truly zero-emissions when production and distribution are taken into account. In an attempt to score more points with eco-warriors, leaf uses recycled water bottles for its seat coverings and a range of other wood and plastic recycled and recyclable materials in its interior and exterior design. Nissan claims the leaf is the greenest production car ever built, and is itself 94 percent recyclable.  the 2012 leaf comes with more standard features, including heated exterior mirrors, a battery heater, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. A quick-charge port now comes standard on the top-of-the-line 2012 leaf sl.  however, nissan says, using the national average for electricity rates, a full overnight battery charge will only cost one dollar. In some states, an electric car means unrestricted access to the carpool/hov lanes on the highways even while driving alone. For those who slog through stop-and-go traffic twice a day, this perk could bring welcome relief. However, it's worth keeping in mind that in crowded cities like los angeles, the congested commute lanes don't move much faster. lineupthe 2012 nissan leaf comes in two versions, sv and sl.  standard equipment on the sv 35,200) includes 16-inch alloy wheels, led headlamps, heated exterior mirrors, a battery heater, an adjustable driver seat, a heated tilt-only steering wheel, cloth upholstery, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats, heated rear seats that fold 60/40, keyless ignition/entry, full power accessories, cruise control and automatic climate control. A trip computer, navigation, and bluetooth are also standard, as well as a six-speaker audio system with a cd player, satellite radio, usb/ipod port and an auxiliary audio jack. Also included is the nissan connection interface, which allows drivers to access battery charging data and activate the climate control system via a smartphone.  the leaf sl 37,250) includes everything above plus automatic headlights, foglamps, a spoiler-mounted solar panel, rearview camera and a cargo cover, as well as a quick-charge port that can charge the car to 80 percent capacity in 30 minutes at high-voltage public charging stations. walkaroundthese days, car design tends to be less by imagination and more by wind tunnel. Designers and engineers took great care to make the leaf as aerodynamic as possible in order to achieve the least amount of drag, and subsequently, the maximum amount of range.  like all electric cars, the 2012 nissan leaf is extremely quiet. So quiet, in fact, that nissan worked with a number of groups to design and build a noise generator that operates between 1 mph and 18 mph, to warn visually impaired pedestrians that a car is nearby. At speeds over 18 mph, the car is loud enough on its own to be heard.  the leaf's electric charging system terminal resides in a hatch in the nose. Those raised headlamp units that stand proud off the front fenders were designed to split the air into two paths, so that the two paths would go around the outside rearview mirrors as quietly as possible. A similar low-noise treatment was done to the antenna. The slippery shape, which includes a completely flat bottom, generates a wind-tunnel coefficient of drag of only 0. 29, among the best of all cars, because aerodynamic drag drains power and creates unwanted noise.  nissan has equipped the leaf with a system called carwings, a smartphone application that can check state of charge, charging status, a start-charging command, and a remote switch to start the heating or cooling system. The leaf navigation system is programmed to show all available public charging stations as well as a continuously updated circle of driving range overlaid on the nav map. There is a separate screen for charging timer to take advantage of low electricity rates at night, and a climate control timer screen.  the seats are comfortable and well fitting, the adjustable wheel is comfortable to use, and there is plenty of light coming into the car from the large windows and narrow pillars. There is more room inside the leaf than it looks like from the outside. driving impressionwe had as much driving fun with the leaf as we've had in a long time, because it is so very different from driving a traditional, gas-powered car. The electric motor provides tons of silent torque to get away from stoplights, and still has plenty of power for 40-70 mph passing maneuvers. And it will go better than 90 mph on level roads. Through an elaborate electronic control system, the battery connects to a synchronous ac electric motor rated at 80 kilowatts and 280 newton-meters (or 207 foot-pounds) of torque. The onboard battery charger, which comes into play automatically every time the accelerator pedal is released or the brake pedal is applied, through regenerative braking, is rated at 3. 3 kilowatts.  the underpinnings of the welded unibody chassis are mostly derived from nissan's worldwide network of b-sized cars like the versa, with struts up front and a torsion beam suspension at the rear, simple, cheap to build, and largely effective. Everything in the car operates electrically, from the a/c system to the power steering, and it all works very well as a package. It turns in with authority, makes, quick left-right transitions, brakes very well, and in general drives like a normal nissan small car.  although design is subjective, we think the leaf is really cute, with a combination of japanese nissan and french renault design ideas inside and out, and it is not a small car, even though it looks small, as epa rates it bigger than 100 cubic feet inside, qualifying it as a compact car. There is room for six-footers front and rear, and a very good storage trunk. summarywith an average operating cost of only about 2. 6 cents per mile versus more than 12 cents for a comparable gasoline car capable of 25 mpg, near-zero maintenance costs, and enough juice onboard to get most people where they need to go and back without worry, the leaf would be a good deal without all the incentives, rebates and refunds, but, when those are all factored in, the leaf looks like a solid deal for the american family commuter.  jim mccraw filed this newcartestdrive. 2013 nissan leaf review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. When it debuted for the 2011 model year, it was the first mass-production all-electric vehicle to go on sale in the u. With a starting price of more than $30,000. With newer electric cars nipping at the leaf's heels, nissan has introduced a new base model for 2013 that starts at just $28,800. The 2013 nissan leaf is assembled at nissan's plant in smyrna, tennessee, whereas 2011 and 2012 models were built in japan. Leaf is an acronym for low emission automobile of the future. A 24 kwh lithium-ion battery pack powers an 80-kilowatt electric motor, good for 107 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. Improvements to the 2013 leaf include improved aerodynamics, more efficient regenerative braking, and better vehicle energy management, resulting in better environmental protection agency numbers to the tune of 130/102 mpge city/highway energy efficiency equivalent rating and an epa-estimated range of 75 miles.  by comparison, the 2012 leaf was rated at 106/92 mpge with an estimated range of 73 miles. Also, the epa changed its methodologies this year for determining ev range, so the leaf's improvements are more significant than the numbers indicate. Under the old system, the 2013 nissan leaf would have received an epa range estimate rating of 84 miles. As with all electric vehicles, the actual range will vary based on driving style, speed, weather, temperature and battery age.  in addition to improved efficiency and the new entry-level model, the 2013 nissan leaf gets a new 6. 6-kw onboard charger, which is optional on the base model and standard on upper trims. Several new standard and optional features are available on the 2013 leaf across all trim levels.  the leaf is a zero-tailpipe-emissions vehicle; the tailpipe bit is important, since no vehicle is truly zero-emissions when production and distribution (and, in this case, charging) are taken into account. The leaf uses partially recycled materials in the fabric upholstery found in the mid-level sv trim, made in part from recycled water bottles. It also uses a range of other wood and plastic recycled and recyclable materials in its interior and exterior design. Nissan claims the leaf is the greenest production car ever built, and is about 94 percent recyclable.  like other alternative fuel vehicles, the leaf qualifies for federal, and in some cases, state and/or local tax credits. The benefits of owning this type of vehicle may not all be measured in dollars and cents, however. Some states offer hov high-occupancy vehicle stickers for electric and hybrid vehicles, which give access to coveted carpool lanes even when the driver is solo. For those who slog through stop-and-go traffic twice a day, this perk could bring welcome relief. Although it's wise to keep in mind that in crowded cities like los angeles, the congested commute lanes don't move much faster.  competitors were practically nonexistent when the nissan leaf debuted, but more automakers have stepped up with electric vehicle offerings. They include the ford focus electric, mitsubishi imiev, honda fit ev, and smart fortwo ev. Forthcoming electric models include the chevrolet spark ev and an electric version of mercedes-benz's newly announced cla-class. Standard wheels are 16-inch steel. The package also includes a rearview camera, a smart safety feature.  leaf sv 31,820) adds the 6. 6 kw onboard charger, fabric upholstery partially made from recycled materials, cruise control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, navigation with 7-inch touchscreen and an upgraded, six-speaker audio system with real-time traffic, pandora radio capability and google navigation support. Also included is the nissan carwings interface, which allows remote access to the vehicle via a smartphone. Standard wheels are 16-inch alloys.  leaf sl 34,840) includes everything above plus leather upholstery, a cargo cover, homelink connectivity, automatic led headlights, foglamps, a spoiler-mounted solar panel, and a quick-charge port. Options include the premium package, which bundles an upgraded bose audio system with a 360-degree around view monitor. walkaroundbecause efficiency is crucial when it comes to evs, design tends to be less by imagination and more by wind tunnel. Designers and engineers took great care to make the leaf as aerodynamic as possible in order to achieve the least amount of drag, and subsequently, the maximum amount of range.  we think the leaf is really cute, with a combination of japanese nissan and french renault design ideas inside and out. The tilt steering wheel is comfortable to use, but it unfortunately does not telescope. Plenty of light comes into the car thanks to the large windows and narrow pillars, which also aids visibility.  cargo space in the nissan leaf measures 24 cubic-feet with the rear seats in place, or 30 total cubes with the 60/40-split rear seats folded flat.  special instruments include a large speedometer, battery temperature, power meter, remaining energy, capacity level, distance-to-empty, and an eco mode indicator. The leaf navigation system is programmed to show all available public charging stations as well as a continuously updated circle of driving range overlaid on the nav map. There is a separate screen for charging timer to take advantage of low electricity rates at night, and a climate control timer screen.  on sv and sl trims, the leaf includes a system called carwings, a smartphone application that can check state of charge, charging status, a start-charging command, and a remote switch to start the heating or cooling system. All-new sedan version easy on the wallet. introductionthe 2012 nissan versa lineup features a completely re-engineered version of the versa sedan. The 2012 versa is available in sedan and hatchback variants, but while the versa sedan is all-new, the 2012 versa hatchback carries over on the previous-generation platform. A new hatchback will be introduced as a 2013 model.  both versa body styles offer spacious interiors with decent head- and legroom, making them a good choice for larger drivers. In short, the nissan versa is a roomy, practical small car.  the 2012 versa sedan is all-new and therefore a better choice than the hatchback. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on the 2012 versa sedan, while a continuously variable automatic transmission (cvt) is included on higher trim levels. The 2012 versa sedan also gets revised steering and suspension, which makes for more responsive handling.  fuel economy is the name of the game for the new 2012 versa sedan. Thanks to weight savings and new engine technology including dual fuel injection, the all-new 2012 versa sedan achieves an epa-estimated 27/36 mpg city/highway and 30 mpg combined with the manual, or an admirable 30/38/33 miles per gallon with the cvt.  the 2012 versa hatchback, unlike the sedan, carries over unchanged from 2011. The hatchback is essentially the same body style as the first-generation version that launched as a 2008 model. It rides on the previous-generation platform. On the base versa s hatch, a 6-speed manual transmission comes standard, with an optional 4-speed automatic. The hatchback's extra power and weight dings fuel economy, with an epa rating of 26/31/28 mpg city/highway/combined with the manual and 24/32/27 mpg with the automatic. The upper-level versa sl hatchback comes standard with a cvt, which brings fuel economy up to 28/34/30.  the 2012 versa sedan beats the fuel economy of the 2012 hatchback by a wide margin, making the new sedan more economical in the long run than the hatch. An all-new 2013 versa hatchback will introduced in late 2012 or early 2013 as a 2013 model, so look for that.  the versa subcompact competes with the honda fit, toyota yaris, ford fiesta, chevrolet sonic, and hyundai accent. Those looking primarily for space might like the versa's larger dimensions, which are larger than those of the fit or yaris. Versa s comes standard with a 5-speed manual transmission 10,990) or an optional cvt 13,120). Features include air conditioning, manually adjustable driver's seat, a trip computer and a two-speaker sound system with a cd player and auxiliary audio jack. Versa s models ride on 15-inch steel wheels. A cruise control package 350) is available on models with the cvt and includes cruise control, two additional audio speakers and trunk lighting.  versa sv sedan 14,980) comes standard with the cvt and the cruise control package plus keyless entry, full power accessories, upgraded cloth upholstery and upgraded gauges. The sv convenience package 350) adds bluetooth handsfree phone connectivity and an ipod/usb port.  versa sl sedan 15,990) gets everything that comes with the sv convenience package plus a 60/40-split-folding rear seat, fog lights and 15-inch alloy wheels. The sl tech package 700) adds navigation with touchscreen interface and satellite radio capability.  the versa hatchback is available in two trim levels. Versa s comes standard with a 6-speed manual 14,670) or an optional 4-speed automatic 15,870). The plus package 500) adds keyless entry and cruise control. A special edition package 700) is also available on hatchbacks equipped with the automatic transmission and includes the features found on the plus package plus a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an upgraded audio system, steering-wheel mounted controls, bluetooth handsfree phone capability and unique 15-inch alloy wheels, the latter of which are also available a la carte 470). Versa sl hatchback 18,590) comes standard with a continuously variable transmission (cvt) and includes all the s model's optional equipment plus keyless ignition/entry, better cloth upholstery, front and rear center armrests, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a six-speaker audio system. Navigation with a touchscreen interface 700) is also available.  safety features on all versa models include front airbags, supplemental front seat-mounted front side airbags, roof-mounted side curtain airbags, antilock brakes (abs), traction control, stability control, electronic brake force distribution (ebd) and brake assist. walkaroundthe nissan versa looks bigger than a subcompact car. The new sedan is slightly more than six inches longer than the old hatchback. The old hatch is nearly an inch taller than the new sedan. The versa is slightly larger than many of the subcompacts, such as the ford fiesta and chevrolet sonic, but it's smaller than the compact-class cars such as the ford focus and chevrolet cruze.  the all-new 2012 versa sedan is a friendly, approachable little car, without the aggressive, angry lines that many car companies are hooked on these days. The sedan's styling is clean, fluid and well proportioned. It's short on style and personality, however.  in front, the versa sedan uses nissan's new signature sedan grille design and jewel-like headlights. Other exterior features include an available chrome-accented grille, chrome door handles and fog lights.  the sedan employs clever design tactics that are not only aesthetic, but also practical. For example, the indented line in the middle of the roofline helps to reduce roof panel vibrations. The hatch has a broad, somewhat v-shaped grille flanked by triangular headlights. The versa sl hatchback, with its front spoiler below the bumper, has a more sporty look. It has an exceptionally short rear overhang, which means very little of the car extends past the rear wheels. In back, the side edges of the tailgate angle sharply inward to clear the cat's-eye taillights. Three large, conventional knobs operate the climate control system. The width and the substantial structure of the front seats makes the versa a good choice among subcompacts for larger drivers.  back seat space on sedan and hatchback models is particularly impressive. Even a six-footer shouldn't feel cramped as the rear seat legroom is at or near the top of the class. The versa sedan gives up about half an inch of rear-seat headroom to the hatchback, but that's not all that much.  the versa sedan boasts an enormous trunk for a subcompact, with 14. 8 cubic feet of space. The hatchback nets a generous 17. 8 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats in place and a maximum of 50. 4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. While this is quite large, it falls short of the honda fit and its flat load floor. driving impressionthe nissan versa has modest power and is a solid choice for a-to-b transport. Fuel economy depends on the model and powertrain. On the low end of the scal. Climate Control✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Cruise Control✔ CD Player✔ Bluetooth✔ Air Conditioning✔ Alloy Wheels

2006 nissan altima review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. High performance, high practicality. introductionthe nissan altima is a roomy, comfortable, practical mid-size sedan. It's designed to please fewer people, but to please those few more intensely.  in this respect the altima reminds us more of mazda's mid-size sedan, the mazda6. Both offer stand-out styling; both surrender some refinement for gains in handling response. In other ways, however, they are diametric opposites: the lean and wiry mazda is the smallest car in this class, powered by a choice of high-winding engines; while the muscular nissan tops the class in both horsepower and wheelbase and is one of the roomiest cars in the class.  the altima delivers stunning acceleration when ordered with its 250-horsepower v6, essentially the same engine used in the nissan 350z and maxima. Punch it in any gear and it takes off, with nimble handling and brakes to match its thrust. The high-performance altima se-r adds 10 more horsepower and even more sports appeal. Altima's interior was redesigned for 2005, which resulted in an improved cabin. Altima also received some mild styling enhancements and a slight boost to its v6 for 2005. Air conditioning and a stereo are not included, however. The base model is only available with a five-speed manual transmission.  the 2. 5 s 19,500) adds air conditioning, power mirrors, remote keyless entry with remote trunk lock, an eight-way adjustable driver's seat, cruise control, a six-speaker audio system, seatback pockets and a lock for the split rear seat. The convenience package 1,680) features alloy wheels, eight-way power driver's seat with lumbar support, leather-wrapped steering wheel, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, trip computer, dual illuminated vanity mirrors, speed-sensitive volume control, automatic headlights and a vehicle security system. The convenience plus package 2,500) adds a power glass sunroof with sunshade to the other goodies, while the premium convenience package 3,300) adds to the above a bose audio system that includes a six-disc in-dash cd changer. Special edition, premium, comfort, and trip packages will also be available.  the 2. 5 sl 23,450) is the luxury altima. The only convenience option is the sunroof 900). This is a very nice car, the top-of-the-line altima.  the 3. 5 se 23,500), on the other hand, is a performance model, equipped with the v6; five-speed manual transmission; 17-inch alloy wheels; wider, speed-rated tires; a performance-tuned suspension; fog lights; and dual chrome exhaust tips. The se is also available with the five-speed automatic 23,800). Cloth upholstery is standard. A leather package 3,000) includes leather upholstery, bose audio, sunroof, and heated front seats and mirrors. The sport package plus 2,600) includes the sunroof, spoiler, bose premium audio, and xenon headlights. The leather sport package 3,900) combines the leather package with the spoiler and xenon headlights.  the se-r 29,550) features a 260-horsepower version of the 3. 5-liter v6, performance-tuned front struts and rear shocks, stiffer front and rear springs, thicker front and rear stabilizer bars, speed-rated 225/45wr18 tires and 18-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheels. Anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd) and brake assist are standard. Unique front and rear fascias and its own rear spoiler, compact fog lights, side-sill spoilers, and large dual exhaust finishers highlight the exterior. Inside, the se-r gets sport leather seats, dark chrome trim, and a three-pod center-mounted gauge package. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, but the five-speed automatic is available as a no-cost option.  safety features include dual-stage frontal airbags. Optional: side-impact airbags designed to provide torso protection for driver and front passenger and roof-mounted curtain airbags designed to provide head protection for front and rear passengers in a side impact or rollover. We strongly rec. walkaroundthe nissan altima is a big car by mid-size standards, bigger than the current toyota camry and honda accord. Its wheels are pushed to the far corners, giving it a long wheelbase and wide track for stability at high speeds. The long wheelbase leaves plenty of room for passengers, and for large doors to let them in and out.  cast in the style of a european sedan, the altima looks more like something from volkswagen or audi than honda or toyota. Yet the altima also has more exterior design detail than the camry or accord, with creased mirrors, integrated foglamps and other subtle cues. Altima's sloping roofline is reminiscent of a coupe. Its high trunk lid is set off by bold round taillights, turn signals and backup lights set in a triangular-shaped cover.  nissan subtly restyled the altima for 2005 for a more aggressive look. The new hood looks more athletic, with a muscular bulge suggesting a powerful engine. A smoother front fascia and smoked headlamps add to the bold impression, and tooth-like ridges molded into the horizontal grille bars tighten altima's kinship with the more exotic maxima. Altima's grille is large by contemporary standards, but not the least bit awkward.  altima is assembled with a one-piece bodyside structure for more consistent build quality. Altima has gained on camry and accord in exterior build quality and nissan claims panel-fit accuracy within 1. 0 mm. interiorthe nissan altima feels spacious inside and that's no illusion. It ranks at or near the top of the class in interior roominess. There's more front legroom here than in all but the largest vehicles on the road. The front seats are quite comfortable and large enough for larger bodies. Changes included a new instrument panel, a new center stack and a new center console. Seat materials, trim finishes and the headliner were upgraded and new chrome accents were added. Overall it's a vast improvement over earlier models and closer to toyota and honda levels, but still not quite there. The cloth upholstery is okay and the material used on the dash is nice, but the lids on the front of the center console are flimsy.  the altima is a comfortable car, however, and driver visibility is excellent. The dashboard is set relatively low, with a binnacle directly in front of the driver containing speedometer, tachometer, and water temperature and fuel gauges. The instruments glow orange in the dark, offering less interference to night vision. The three-spoke steering wheel tilts and telescopes to help optimize driving position. The shifter on models with manual transmissions is somewhat long, with long throws.  the available navigation display is located at the top of the center stack and it works well. Audio controls are mounted high on the center stack for easy access. At the top are two rows of buttons, used to control audio, trip computer, and navigation functions, with a small joy stick in the center. Heating/air conditioning control knobs lie directly below and are easy to locate with minimal distraction.  air conditioning vents are flush-mounted on the dash. Seams for the passenger-side airbag are invisible, cleverly hidden in a large expanse of unembellished dashboard surface. The center console has cupholders large enough for one-liter bottles. A power port inside the center console storage area is useful for cell phones. There's an adjustable elbow rest. The parking brake is a proper handbrake, located front and center. The windows can be opened with the remote key fob (by holding down the unlock button), a nice feature on hot summer days.  the rear seats are supportive and comfortable, with good legroom and sufficient headroom. A 6-foot, 4-inch passenger can sit comfortably behind a 6-foot, 4-inch drive.

2012 nissan titan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Bold style backed by big capabilities. introductionthe nissan titan is a full-size pickup with lots of power, ample capabilities and a level of refinement for price that adds to its appeal.  originally launched as a 2004 model, titan got a new interior, an expanded model lineup, and a long list of detail improvements for 2008, while more safety equipment was made standard for 2010. Changes since then have been minor. The most significant change for the 2012 titan is a new sport appearance package, which combines functional upgrades with a lot of unique appearance items, including 20-inch wheels.  there are two body styles: the king cab has rearward-opening rear doors. The only engine is a very powerful 5. 6-liter v8 that makes 317 horsepower, which is matched to a 5-speed automatic transmission. Titans range from utilitarian models with crank windows to leather-lined cabs befitting a luxury suv.  the strong v8 engine gets the job done. Fuel economy is epa-rated at 13/18 mpg city/highway with two-wheel drive. The king cab, with its rearward-opening doors, is available in s, sv, and pro-4x trim levels. King cab versions have a cargo bed that measures 79. 1 inches long. Crew cab models offer a cargo bed of 67. 3 inches. Crew cab sv is available with a long bed that measures 87. 0 inches.  titan king cab s 27,710) comes with cloth seating for six, 60/40 split fold-up rear seats, basic instrumentation, and 18-inch steel wheels. Titan crew cab s 30,260) adds power windows and door locks. The s popular equipment package for king cab 1,090) and crew cab 1,140) adds alloy wheels, overhead console, cruise control with steering wheel-mounted controls, sliding rear window on king cab, remote keyless entry on crew cab, class iv hitch receiver and seven-pin wiring harness, along with pre-wiring for a trailer brake controller. Accessories for s-models are limited to splashguards 120), a rear bumper step assist 225), all-season floor mats 75), a towing package 290), and bedliner 340).  titan sv king cab 29,710) and titan sv crew cab 31,910) upgrade with alloy wheels, chrome bumpers, upholstery and seating upgrades, a cd changer with mp3 playback, power mirrors, tailgate assist, sliding rear window, and conveniences such as remote keyless entry and illuminated visor mirrors. A long bed for sv crew cab is $450-480. The sv value truck package 1,300-1,350) includes cloth captain's chairs, eight-way power driver's seat, fog lights, bluetooth, floor mats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, rear proximity sensors, and other features. The sv premium utility package 1,910) includes a rockford fosgate audio system, xm satellite radio, power-adjustable pedals, homelink garage-door opener, dual power and heated extendable tow mirrors, and a lot of utility features, including the utili-track bed channel system, spray-on bedliner, lockable bedside storage, front tow hooks, a lower axle ratio for better pulling power, and other worthwhile items. The sv utility package 950) includes the cargo-bed-related items from the premium utility package. The list of available accessories expands to include a utility accessory package 345), and an ipod interface 270).  new for 2012 is the sv sport appearance package 2,490), which combines a dark-silver grille finish with body-color bumpers, black step rails, fog lights, special graphics, and 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels. Otherwise the pro-4x is similar to the sv in level of trim. Options include the premium utility package 1,560) with rockford fosgate sound system and bed equipment, and a luxury package 2,230) that includes leather upholstery, heated front seats and memory for the driver's seat, pedals and outside mirrors. Options include the technology package 3,000), which includes a power moonroof, navigation, and dvd system; and the sl max utility package 500), which adds towing and utility enhancements.  safety features include frontal airbags, side-impact airbags, side-curtain airbags, active front head restraints, and electronic stability control with traction control. walkaroundeverything about the appearance of the nissan titan is big and bold, from the expanse of chrome on the bumper and grille to the creased fenders. This is a big, brawny pickup and looks it.  the titan delivers a high level of function. Maximum payload tops 2,000 pounds on certain versions. Properly equipped titans are rated to tow up to 9,500 pounds. The king cab 2wd is rated for 7,400 pounds. Available towing features include extendable dual-element mirrors, a transmission temperature gauge, lower axle ratio, and other items. Also available is a cargo track retention system (bed sides and floor). An innovative storage box in the rear fender is ideal for wet tow straps, chains or tie-down straps. The locking tailgate is damped and assisted for easy open and close. This truck has been built for work.  king cab versions have a cargo bed that measures 79. 1 inches long (almost seven feet). Crew cab models offer a shorter cargo bed, due to their longer body length, of 67. 3 inches, which is a little less than six feet. The crew cab sv trim level is the only one available with a choice of a longer cargo bed that measures 87. 0 inches, which is slightly over seven feet. However, the longer cargo bed comes with a wheelbase that is also about 20 inches longer, at 159. 5 inches compared to 139. 8 inches for the crew cab with the shorter bed, and that longer wheelbase could definitely hinder maneuverability in tighter spots.  the grille and the mid-section of the front bumper can be body-color or chrome, depending on trim level and option packages. With the new sport appearance package, the bumpers remain body color but the grille is finished in dark hyper silver, a tone we've heard hot rodders call (more accurately, we think) 'black chrome.' the 20-inch wheels (shod with p275/60r20 black-sidewall tires) are finished similarly. A dark gray stripe at the top of the pickup box provides visual balance (it's kinda the same color, too), while tubular black side steps underline the whole ensemble. In all, it's a very successful look. interiorthe cabin serves very well for truck duty yet with comfort and convenience. It's refined and is in every way a nice place to be for traveling, whether it's to the job site or towing the boat to the lake.  dash and door panels are easy to wipe off plastic yet do not give the impression of cost-cutting in materials. On pro-4x models the gauges are white-faced and sporty. Sl models have enough wood-like acreage to fit in a luxury utility. The titan can be equipped with a six-person bench seat interior or with captain's chairs in front for a five-seat capacity. Visibility is excellent to all corners, although shorter drivers may not like the large base on the windshield pillar. The view rearward is very good, especially with the tow mirrors. An optional rearview camera is available and we found it eased trailer hitching.  the center dash section has controls for audio, climate, navigation, and switching duty (tow mode, vdc-off, differential lock, etc.) with an integrated look. It looks good and easily provides plenty of space for things like the dual-zone climate control on sl models.  all c. 2014 nissan versa note review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new hatch has hard-to-beat space at a compelling price. introductionthe 2014 nissan versa note is an all-new model that replaces the outgoing versa hatchback. It doesn't pretend to be something it's not. Its styling doesn't scream for attention, yet it's not boring, either. It does just what it's supposed to do: carry lots of stuff at a reasonable price while achieving good gas mileage.  when measured against the outgoing versa hatchback, the versa note is about six inches shorter, although the length of the wheelbase stays the same. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on the base model, while an all-new continuously variable transmission (cvt) comes on higher trim levels. Significantly, this revised cvt uses a secondary set of gears on the low end to help reduce the sluggish, rubber-band feel from which most cvts suffer. As a result, the versa note has adequate oomph at lower speeds, and most people won't even notice they're not driving a regular automatic transmission.  fuel economy is another major selling point for for the nissan versa note, and is improved by 17 percent over the outgoing hatch thanks in part to a weight reduction of nearly 300 pounds, plus added technology such as dual fuel injection. Additional aerodynamic enhancements also help to make the versa note more slippery. The result is an impressive epa-estimated 31/40 mpg city/highway with the cvt. The base manual doesn't fare as well, earning 27/36 mpg city/highway.  rear cargo space is an impressive 21. 4 cubic feet, the most of any small hatch currently on the market. Rear seats fold down 60/40, and an optional folding cargo floor on upper trim levels adjusts to create a completely flat load surface.  although its low starting price will attract many to the nissan note, there are also plenty of new features and options for anyone looking to soup up their hatch. Fully loaded, the 2014 versa note surpasses the $19k mark including destination for the top-of-the-line model with navigation and a 360-degree parking monitor (the latter of which is a first in a nissan vehicle). But nissan expects their $16,000 sv model to be the most popular choice, equipped with the cvt and a few tech features like bluetooth. For the truly budget-conscious, it's important to note that maximum fuel economy comes only with the cvt, which starts at $1,200 more than the base price.  entry-level hatchbacks such as the chevrolet sonic, ford fiesta, honda fit, hyundai accent, kia rio and toyota yaris compete with the 2014 nissan versa note. A convenience package 540) adds a folding rear seat armrest with cup holders, an adjustable cargo floor, rear parking monitor, usb audio port, satellite radio capability and a 4. 3-inch audio display screen.  versa note sl 17,690) adds everything on the convenience package plus pushbutton start, heated front seats, variable intermittent windshield wipers, front fog lights, a tire-filling alert feature, engine immobilizer and 16-inch alloy wheels. A tech package 800) adds navigation with the nissanconnect interface, a 360-degree parking monitor and heated side-view mirrors.  safety features on all 2014 nissan versa note models include front airbags, front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags, roof-mounted side curtain airbags, antilock brakes (abs), traction control, stability control, electronic brake force distribution (ebd) and brake assist. walkaroundthe nissan versa note isn't a bad looking hatch. It's less wedgy than some, but isn't boxy, either. Designers say its shape is based on a squash line, referring to the path a squash ball takes when a player hits it against the wall and it ricochets back. Overhangs have been reduced by six inches compared to the outgoing hatch to give the note a tauter look, which also helps with improve handling.  like any car designed to maximize fuel economy, aerodynamics play a key role in the versa note's styling. The front end is still pointed, but with softer curves rather than sharp angles. A steeply raked windshield rises up to a tall roof that arcs slightly. A v-shaped groove on the roof helps to channel air more efficiently over the top of the car. Tail lights have small vents on the corners to also help channel air.  from the side, the versa note has deep, arcing character lines that add personality and further help with aero. Large headlamps and tail lamps wrap around to the quarter panels. The rear keeps a bit of its boxy shape from before, but corners are softer and more rounded. The rear window opening is relatively small and sits high up, which is presumably safer in a rear-end collision, but affects rearward visibility.  on every model except the base, the versa note uses an active grille shutter, which automatically closes at highway speeds to channel air around the car, or can open to more effectively cool the engine. interiorit's all about convenience with the 2014 nissan versa note. The interior design is simple, perfunctory and well laid-out. The cabin is filled with lots of hard plastic, but designers did a decent job with different finishes and textures to give variety without looking cheap.  controls are easy to use and well placed. On the center stack, three large, conventional knobs operate the climate control system. Above, base s models have a basic digital display for radio stations. Sv models with the convenience package and sl trims get a larger, 4. 3-inch display that shows artist and song titles as well as station information. Top-of-the-line sl models with the tech package get a touch screen with navigation. While nothing is fancy, everything is readily visible and within easy reach.  front seats have a very upright seating position, and are comfortable enough for short and medium-length trips. But we're not sure they'd offer enough support for very long hauls. Fabric upholstery is basic and attractive, and side arm rests are easily within reach. Headroom is more than ample up front, and at 40. 8 inches, bests other hatches of its size. Front legroom is plentiful too, although it comes up slightly short against most competitors. This is, presumably, because nissan designers placed the front seat track farther forward to make more room in the rear.  storage space up front is minimal; the center console has a tiny pocket next to the emergency brake level that's only large enough for a mobile phone. The rear of the center console has an area with two cupholders on base models and a large deep pocket on upper trims, but it's hard to reach from the front seats, making it better suited for back seat passengers. Rear legroom in the versa note can't be beat, however, measuring an impressive 38. 3 inches, substantially more than the ford fiesta's 31. 2 inches and the honda fit's 34. 5 inches. There's also plenty of tow room under the front seats, so even a six-foot-tall passenger shouldn't feel cramped.  unlike some cars that have a raised area in the middle of the backseat, the middle seat in the versa note is relatively flush, but the center console inhibits legroom and the seat width is relatively narrow. For this reason, we'd save the middle seat for children or smaller adults. On sv models with the convenience package and ls trims, a folding center armrest with cupholders comes standard. One small omission we noticed was that the rear handles in the back seat do not have hanger hooks.  the versa note boasts an enormous trunk, with 21. 4 cubic feet of space wi. 2014 nissan altima review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale.
