2013 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Restyled, refined, retuned suspension, back on track. introductionthe honda civic began its ninth generation with the 2012 model, which was disappointing on account of cost-cutting. The 2013 civic sedan is changed a bit, becoming what the 2012 should have been, with a pretty exterior, snazzy interior, satisfying suspension, and a cabin full of tricks from bluetooth to pandora.  the nose, hood, black honeycomb grille and angled headlamps are pleasing to the eye, with a humped hood and raked windshield that draw attention. The side sills are sculpted smartly, and with body-colored mirrors and door handles, the civic looks classy, especially with the optional alloy wheels. The rear fenders flow nicely into a horizontal v over each side of the rear bumper.  in the cabin there's a ton of standard content, such as bluetooth phone and bluetooth audio, pandora internet radio interface and mp3, usb, ipod and sms text message capability. There's a nice color multi-information display (i-mid) with rearview camera.  the fabric upholstery is excellent, with seats that are well shaped, nicely bolstered and widely adjustable. The standard 60/40 split-folding rear seatback expands cargo capacity. We put a six-footer in the rear seat, and he didn't complain about legroom or headroom.  interior refinements include a new headliner and soft-touch materials on the instrument panel, center console, and door panels. Silver accents here and there, along with faux stitching on the dashboard and door panels, add a touch of upscale. Black carpeting is standard. The colorful instrument backlighting is soothing.  significantly, nvh (noise, vibration and harshness) has been improved over the 2012. More sound deadening material has been added to the firewall, wheel wells, flooring and trunk, while the windshield and front windows are thicker, all in the successful pursuit of silence. On the inside, the civic neither feels nor sounds like a mere $20,000 car.  we found the i-vtec 140-horsepower engine with its 128 foot-pounds of torque to be adequate. Acceleration performance is average but feels stronger because the engine is smooth and cabin quiet. The 5-speed automatic transmission is programmed to be invisible, while the ride is solid and comfortable. There's an econ mode that remaps the engine and transmission for fuel mileage over power. We easily ran 75 mph in econ and impressively got 32. 1 miles per gallon.  the suspension has been reworked for 2013 with thicker anti-roll bars front and rear, quicker steering, and firmer bushings. The front subframe body structure is stiffer. We've had it on the track and its performance is marvelous.  there are also three high-mileage versions of the civic. The civic hf uses a specially tuned version of the same 1. 8-liter engine to achieve an epa-rated 29/41 mpg city/highway, compared to 28/39 mpg for the civic lx and ex. It gets 27/38 mpg on the cheaper fuel. Fuel economy is rated at 44/44 mpg. The bare bones and most affordable model, dx, has been discontinued: dee-xed.  new safety technologies built into the 2013 civic include the application of the next-gen advanced compatibility engineering ii (ace ii) body structure, which includes additional front end structures designed to help increase occupant protection by dispersing crash energy in narrow overlap frontal crashes. Also new are smartvent side airbags, side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor and the availability of forward collision warning (fcw) and lane departure warning (ldw) systems, which make their compact-class debut in the 2013 civic hybrid. lineupthe 2013 honda civic comes in six models. The sporty civic si uses a high-revving 2. 4-liter and 6-speed gearbox, coupe or sedan. Civic hf features a hybrid gas-electric powertrain tuned for high gas mileage. Civic gx runs on natural gas.  civic lx sedan 18,165) and lx coupe 17,965) come standard with 5-speed manual transmission, fabric upholstery, air conditioning with air-filtration system, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power everything, bluetooth, color multi-information display with rearview camera, usb/ipod connection, pandora interface, sms text feature, and steering wheel audio controls. The 5-speed automatic is available for the civic lx sedan 18,965) and lx coupe 18,765).  civic ex sedan 20,815) comes standard with the 5-speed automatic. All civic ex models include a six-speaker audio system, 60/40 split rear seat, and power moonroof. Opting for the civic ex sedan navi 23,765) adds navigation and xm radio.  civic ex-l 22,265) coupe or sedan upgrades with leather upholstery and heated front seats. Civic ex-l navi 23,765) include navigation and xm.  civic hf sedan 19,765) is designed for maximum fuel efficiency with an economy tuned engine and 5-speed automatic.  civic gx sedan 24,465) burns natural gas.  civic hybrid 24,360) uses a gas-electric powertrain with cvt and is available with leather 25,560), navi 25,860), or both 27,060).  civic si sedan 22,715) and coupe 22,515) feature a high-performance 2. 4-liter engine and 6-speed manual. The 2013 civic actually catches some eyes with its changes. We got comments about the car's good looks, driving an ex for one week.  honda had made a decision to go with the austerity times on the redesigned 2012 sedan, which sported new fascias and character lines, but nothing bold. (the previous-generation civic was the bold one, and its then-radical aerodynamics flow through to the 2013 model.) by playing it close to the vest, the class-leading civic sedan was upstaged in all directions; witness the skyactiv mazda3, stylish ford focus, and the hyundai elantra, a swoopy good deal. So for 2013 honda responds with a rapid comeback, starting with the body makeover of the sedan. (meanwhile, the coupe, with its own identity, doesn't get changed because there was no demand to change it.)  the nose and tail are new, up to the hood and trunk lid. The black honeycomb mesh grill looks serious, if disguised, undermined by a thin chrome smile and half-hidden behind the mundane (but universally recognizable) honda emblem. We could do without the gratuitous horizontal chrome strip within the fascia.  the a-pillars have been thinned, but the steep rake of the windshield is untouched. The side sills are sculpted smartly; with body-colored mirrors and door handles, the civic looks classy. But not the lx with its awful plastic wheelcovers. Honda designers did good on bumpers. At the tail above the bumper, it's restyled but still ordinary, even with big new two-piece taillamps. We could do without the gratuitous horizontal chrome strip across the trunk. But that's a generic statement; we could say that about every car.  some less noticeable parts of the body have also been changed, especially the front floor and upper wheel housing. Fifty-percent of the body is high-strength steel, providing a rigid structure and light weight. interiorin the cabin there's much new content to bring the 2013 civic upscale to match its competitors. However, there's some sleight of hand, because much of what's now standard in all models got there by discontinuing the low-cost bare-bones dx. There's a new and classy all-black interior color. The seats are well shaped, nicely bolstered and widely adjustable. The most useful information is repeated at the top of the dash, allowing the driver to scan without taking his or her eyes much off the road. Forward sightlines, even over that cool humped hood, are excellent. We appreciated the thinner windshield pillars, and small window set in the angle where the pillar intersects the car's hood. A lot of new cars have thick a-pillars that can obstruct the driver's view of pedestrians and other vehicles, but not here.  the i-mid, or intelligent multi-information display, uses a toggle on the leather-wrapped steering wheel that enables the driver to scroll through a variety of vehicle info. 2003 honda cr-v review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Roomy interior, agile handling make this an appealing car. introductionthe honda cr-v is roomy and convenient and easy to drive. It rides nice and smoothing, without the jouncy harshness of most suvs. It's surprisingly maneuverable in tight quarters and handles well on winding roads.  the cr-v has grown up. Literally: last year, a new model was launched that was larger, roomier, and more powerful than the first-generation model, and the new cr-v reclaimed its leading position in the compact sport-utility race.  along with the toyota rav4, the cr-v was one of the original cute-utes: not quite a sport-utility, but more than a car, offering an upright seating position, all-wheel drive and decent cargo space. Since it was built on a car platform (the honda civic), its highway-friendly ride and handling made it drive more like a car. That was in mid-1997.  since then the field has become crowded with competitors, including the ford escape, mazda tribute, and hyundai santa fe. The chevrolet tracker and suzuki vitara offered more truck-like engineering for better off-road capability. Land rover introduced its luxurious and highly capable freelander, while jeep launched its highly capable and slightly larger liberty.  with the 2002 model, however, the cr-v got back in the hunt. It still isn't any good off-road, but it's quite competent on the highways and byways where most of these vehicles are driven most of the time. The honda bests many of its immediate competitors in both qualitative and quantitative measures, while trailing in a few minor areas.  for 2003, honda has added coat hooks in the rear compartment and enlarged the front storage console to better accommodate cassettes and cds. Options are extremely limited; as honda firmly believes that the fewer the options, the less a car costs to build. It's available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.  the base lx is well equipped for $19,360. With the automatic, the 4wd lx costs $20,560.  side-impact air bags add $250. It lists for $22,060 with the five-speed manual, $22,860 with the automatic. walkaroundthe cr-v is growing up. This latest version shows less activity in the body panels, suggesting a more robust persona. For lack of a better comparison, it's like a puppy that's filled out as it has grown up. interiorthe honda cr-v has a friendly interior that's easy to live with, convenient in the daily hustle. Getting in and out is quick and easy. For 2003, rear coat hooks have been added and the center console-mounted storage area has been enlarged to accommodate cds and cassettes.  gauges are easy to read, with white numerals on a black background, avoiding the twilight wash-out afflicting the black-on-white arrays that are the current fad. Cruise control is standard, as is an adjustable steering column.  the front seats are comfortable. In nearly every measure of interior room, the cr-v bests its competition. Only the toyota rav4 beats the cr-v's front seat headroom, and by less than half an inch. The ford escape and rav4 provide more front-seat leg room, by 0. 3 and 0. 9 inches, respectively, over the cr-v's still-generous 41. 3 inches.  likewise, the rear bench is comfortable with lots of room. The rear bench seat has three-point belts and head restraints at all three positions, something not all suvs offer.  in terms of cargo hauling, the cr-v is the undisputed champion, with 72. 0 cubic feet of cargo space. A picnic table in back does double duty as the cover for the spare tire bin. Everything else is where it should be, and there are no less than 21 storage bins adroitly spread about the cabin.  we really liked it the am/fm/cassette stereo with 6-disk in-dash cd changer. Honda does not provide a compass, however.  the parking brake is disguised, subtly integrated into the vertical panel forward of the center console. As odd as the placement might seem at first, over time it begins to make ergonomic sense. driving impressionthe honda cr-v rides well, whether the roads are smooth or rough. Through the miracles of valve timing, honda is able to generate lots of power while keeping fuel economy at an impressive epa-estimated 22/26 mpg city/highway. All cr-vs meet the new lev-ii low-emissions standards.  the cr-v's handling is reassuring. It feels sure-footed on twisting roads. The handling is neutral and the tires offer lots of grip in corners. The cr-v drives more like a car than a truck. That's because it is more car than truck. It's a car and that's a good thing.  the cr-v is more maneuverable in tight parking lots than a toyota rav4 or ford escape. That's a benefit of its tight turning radius (33. 8 feet for the cr-v verses 35. 4 feet for both the rav4 and escape).  in terms of crashworthiness, the cr-v rates highly. The cr-v earned 5-star ratings from the national highway traffic safety administration for both front and side impact, the highest rating possible. summarywith its expanded cargo and passenger volume and more mature styling, the latest honda cr-v has graduated to less cute, more ute. In the process, it has not only caught up to its competition, but passed most of it.  yes, a v6 would be nice, but it's not necessary, given the impressive torque output of the cr-v's inline-4. Most importantly, honda's reputation for quality and durability make the cr-v a top choice in the small-sport-ute field. model lineuplx 2wd 19,360) (rd6843pw); lx 4wd 19,760) (rd7743pw); and ex 4wd 22,060). assembled insayama, japan. options as testednone. model testedhonda cr-v 4wd ex automatic 22,860) (rd7883jw). 2007 honda accord review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The accord family sedan combines high technology and high quality with everyday economy of operation and keen attention to detail. It comes in a sedan or coupe and has available leather or cloth upholstery. To control this power, there are the available five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmissions. Standard safety features include side-impact and curtain airbags, in addition to the required dual front airbags, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution. The honda accord is a carryover from 2006. Only small trim changes occur for 2007. Anti-lock Brakes

2006 honda odyssey review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth and responsive. introductionthe honda odyssey has been a bestseller ever since the second generation was introduced in 1999. When the all-new third generation was introduced as a 2005 model, honda showed it wasn't resting on its laurels. Power door locks with remote keyless entry, power windows, and 60/40 split fold-down rear seats come standard.  the ex 28,395) adds power sliding doors, tri-zone climate control, a stowable second-row plusone seat, in-dash cd changer, steering wheel audio controls, power driver seat controls, alloy wheels and other features. It has a slightly stiffer suspension, run-flat tires, front and rear parking sensors, automatic tri-zone climate control, a power tailgate, power-adjustable pedals, an upgraded sound system, 17 cupholders, and all the features found in the ex with leather. That's stretching it a bit, though it looks curvy in profile and there is a similarity to the accord in the front end.  large headlights flank its big grille. The hood is sculptured with curves that lead naturally back to the windshield and emphasize the big fender flares. Honda has not hidden the sliding door channels at the base of the window but left them partially obscured by a crease that runs the length of the vehicle.  all models come with two sliding doors, manually operated on the lx and electrically operated on all other models. The power windows in each of the side doors can be opened in the same fashion as in a car. The power doors seemed a bit reluctant to operate at times, less responsive to key fob commands than toyota's sliding doors.  the odyssey boasts honda's advanced compatibility engineering (ace) body structure. The vehicle's crush zones have been re-engineered to provide better protection for occupants while lessening damage when hitting other smaller vehicles and pedestrians. Its body structure is rigid, a key element for crisp handling and a smooth ride. A low drag coefficient helps improve fuel economy and high-speed stability. interiorinside, the honda odyssey is comfortable and convenient. It feels downright luxurious when ordered with leather trim. The materials are nice and the metallic-colored trim that runs across the center dash is attractive.  the driver's seat is designed to hold the driver more firmly and is positioned in a car-like setting. The shift lever is mounted on the dashboard; it looks odd at first, but it's easier to use than a column-mounted shifter. A handy drink tray is provided between the front seats, but there's no center console.  the second-row bucket seats are comfortable.  the third-row seat is split 60/40 and folds easily into the well provided for it, and the headrests do not need to be removed before folding.  there's room for eight people with the optional plusone seat that fits between the two captain's chairs in the second row. If it's not needed as a seat it can be turned into a table or stowed in the floor in place of the lazy susan bin. If the plusone seat is not being used, the right-hand seat can be slid across to allow easier access to the third-row seats. This flexibility makes the odyssey a versatile people hauler, but it's not the best in the class for hauling cargo.  the optional voice-activated dvd navigation system includes zagat restaurant data. The large eight-inch monitor is positioned high on the dashboard for easy viewing. The voice-activated system responds to 637 commands and is smart enough to understand different accents and find locations without any need for input other than by voice. Apart from navigation, the system can be used to operate the radio and climate controls. We found the system responds effectively to voice commands.  the available dvd entertainment system features a large nine-inch widescreen display that folds out of the ceiling. The wireless headsets turn on and off automatically as the ear pads are rotated. No, it's not for serving food, but for adding an incredibly useful hidden storage area. The previous odyssey had a storage well under the floor of the front seats for the spare tire. Honda engineers have moved the spare to a location in the rear. Instead of removing the round space under the floor where the spare used to reside they've turned it into a hidden storage compartment with a rotating compartmentalized bin. There's a small access panel in the floor between the two front seats for front passengers to get access and another bigger one in front of the center-row seats for access. So whatever stuff is stowed in the lazy susan, front or middle-row passengers can turn it for access. Honda's goal with this latest-generation model was to produce a minivan with the handling of a european sedan.  the odyssey belies its size on the road and handles like a premium sedan. We found its handling and ride pleasant for long drives as well as around town.  during a test drive along country roads near the honda factory in alabama, we found the odyssey offered a perfectly pleasant ride. It was neither too firm nor too soft. Granted, there is some road vibration. It was no worse than in a chrysler town & country, however, and many people will not notice as it's a common trait of many large cars and most suvs. All in all, it's an ideal vehicle for a long-distance drive.  several laps around a race track showed the odyssey to be stable at high speeds. And we were surprised how much we could chuck it into corners. We found we could drive hard enough into a sharp corner to feel the tires slip without any drama. We could not feel much body roll (lean) in corners, and an odyssey lapping in front of us looked remarkably stable for a tall vehicle.  parking is easy. The turning radius is among the tightest of any minivan, making it an easy to make u-turns and maneuver in parking lots. The park-assist system, with beeping tones that warn the driver of other bumpers front and rear, helps considerably when parallel parking.  straight-line acceleration is good, better than other minivans. Yet despite having 244 horsepower going through the front wheels, the odyssey is almost devoid of any torque steer.  the odyssey's 3. 5-liter v6 engine is smooth, powerful, clean and fuel efficient. Both versions of the v6 generate the same amount of power: 244 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque (though the ivtec generates its peak torque at 4500 rpm vs. 5000 rpm for the vtec). If it looks like horsepower figures are lower for 2006, it's due to a change in how the society of automotive engineers tests engines. No change has actually been made to the engines.  the brakes work well. Every odyssey comes with anti-lock brakes (abs) and vehicle stability assist, honda's electronic stability control system. This system works in conjunction with the drive-by-wire accelerator and abs to modulate the brakes while managing the throttle and ignition. If the vehicle starts to lose grip on a tight turn on a slippery surface, the system automatically slows the engine and gently applies brakes to stop the vehicle from skidding out of control. In a test on a soaking skid pad we found the system works well. Fortunately it only works in emergency situations so it's not distracting during normal spirited driving. It can be turned off, though we recom.

2005 honda pilot review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New engine increases power. introductionthe honda pilot gets a new engine for 2005, giving it a significant boost in power, along with other revisions that improve this sport-utility.  the pilot is the honda of suvs, practical, efficient, reliable, and powerful. The pilot drives more like a car than a truck, with the crisp, predictable handling for which honda is known. Yet it delivers impressive fuel economy. Two models are available: lx 27,350) and ex 29,920). Both are well equipped.  the lx comes with air conditioning, cruise control, am/fm/cd stereo, power windows, mirrors and door locks, and a rear wiper. Ex can be distinguished by its aluminum alloy wheels and body-colored moldings, mirrors and door handles. Safety is enhanced by an electronic stability control system that honda calls vehicle stability assist.  option packages for the ex include the leather interior 2,200) with heated front seats and side mirrors. The entertainment package 3,700) includes the leather package and rear-seat dvd video system. The navigation package 4,200) adds leather and a satellite-linked guidance system. A towing package and brush guards are available as dealer-installed accessories. walkaroundthe pilot gracefully borrows key styling cues from honda's smaller cr-v. The grille and headlights are a careful enlargement of the cr-v's fluid wraparound face.  the wheel arches are aggressive enough to offset any impression that this is a toy truck, but subtle enough to be consistent with the pilot's likely hangouts in upscale neighborhoods and suburban mall parking lots. Large honda badges on the grille and liftgate make it clear that the company is proud of the pilot, and expects customers to feel the same way.  honda has limited the amount of matte-black plastic bodywork that seems to be increasingly popular on sport-utilities, and we appreciate that. Body-colored moldings give the pilot ex a more refined, upscale look. The pilot's only nod to this allegedly rugged suvness is the step on the rear bumper (a good thing) and rubberized plastic guards under both bumpers. The second-row seats are comfortable for adults, but the third-row seats are more suited for children.  the second- and third-row seats are slightly higher than those ahead, theater style, improving forward visibility for passengers. The second-row seatbacks recline, albeit with limited range. The second row can slide fore and aft, allowing leg room for the second and third rows to be adjusted according to the size of the passengers. Getting into the third row is aided by the seat design. Flip a lever and the second-row seatback pivots forward while the entire seat slides forward. The seat returns to its original position by pushing on the seat back.  pilot's seating system is exceptionally versatile for handling a mix of cargo and people. Both rows of rear seats are split 60/40. The second-row seat folds away easily via a single lever and drops the seat flush to the floor. There are no gaps in the cargo floor as with some suvs such as the ford explorer.  in terms of cargo capacity, the pilot is among the best in its class. That's considerably more than the gmc envoy or chevy trailblazer (80. 1 cubic feet), ford explorer (81. 3) or toyota highlander (80. 6) or nissan murano (81. 6). The lx model's manual seat adjustments are simple but effective. A driver's foot rest, or dead pedal, is standard on all models for 2005, a welcome addition. All controls are easily accessible by the driver. The other instruments and controls will be familiar to anyone who has driven a honda. Most of the pilot's switches operate with a satisfying, positive action.  all is not perfect inside the pilot, however. The minivan-like column shifter is spindly and moves in an ovoid path, like that of the odyssey. Buttresses on the sides of the center console look like they'll collect detritus. A covered compartment located below the pilot's center stack provides more storage in the space between the console and the instrument panel.  the pilot is loaded with kid-friendly stuff. There's a cupholder for every seat and pockets on the seatbacks in the first two rows. The ex includes a second-row fold-down activity tray with more cupholders and storage for pocket-sized electronic games or fast food, including a little spot that cradles sauce containers.  the optional seven-inch dvd screen doesn't take up much space when not in use yet it's easily viewed from all of the rear seats when deployed from the headliner. Audio and video input jacks are provided for a variety of electronic accessories, from camcorders to portable vcrs to game consoles. The system includes two sets of cordless headphones, with jacks for three more wired s. driving impressionthe honda pilot shares its platform with the acura mdx sport-utility and odyssey minivan, both highly successful vehicles. Like the mdx and odyssey, the pilot is a joy in daily use. We found it easy to maneuver and park in crowded parking lots.  the pilot shares mechanical features (engine, transmission, all-wheel-drive system, and brakes) with the more expensive acura mdx, and it shows. The pilot's road manners seem just a little better than necessary to compete in this class. Pilot was developed primarily for highways and city streets, though its ground clearance, suspension travel and standard tires are fine for light off-highway duty.  the new 255-horsepower 3. 5-liter v6 is more than adequate to propel the pilot, which weighs in at 4400 pounds. Acceleration is excellent, particularly in the 30-60 mph range that matters most in daily use. The pilot outguns the v6-powered toyota highlander by 25 horsepower. More important, the engine produces 250 pound-feet of torque from 3000 to 5000 rpm, slightly more than the toyota v6. The big 4. 2-liter six-cylinder in the chevrolet trailblazer and gmc envoy produce 275 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, but are based on truck chassis and are about 200 pounds heavier than the pilot. They don't have five-speed automatic transmissions and their fuel economy is slightly lower.  the new honda engine features a broad and flat torque curve, very low emissions and high fuel economy. The new drive-by-wire throttle replaces a conventional throttle cable with an all-electronic system that relays throttle pedal position to the engine computer. The new system reduces overall weight by incorporating the cruise control system and reduces shift shock by communicating with the transmission during up- and down-shifts.  the pilot's five-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and precisely, even under hard acceleration. It benefits from honda's grade logic control system, which monitors throttle position, speed and acceleration to avoid hunting between gears. The transmission's computer controller holds lower gears longer than normal for better performance going up hills, or to provide engine braking on downhill grades. Most power is delivered to the front wheels, but honda's awd is a bit more proactive than most similar systems. It's a crossover vehicle, so called because it's built on a car structure and drives more like a car than a truck, with crisp, predictable handling and a smooth ride. Yet the Pilot delivers impressive fuel economy, particularly in two-wheel-drive form, thanks to a fuel-saving cylinder-deactivation system that disengages half the engine's cylinders when not needed. A 3.5-liter V6 motivates the Pilot with 244-horsepower and is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission Anti-lock Brakes

It's one of the most enjoyable to drive and lives up to Honda's reputation for refinement, convenience, and great fit and finish. Even on base LX and one-step-up EX models it features Honda's efficiency-enhancing Variable valve Timing with Electronic lift Control (VTEC). 2010 Honda Odyssey Review This car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale

2008 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Broad line of superb compacts. introductionthe honda civic holds its position at the top of this highly competitive class, with innovative styling, segment-leading refinement, and a broad model line that ranges from eco-friendly to sport-compact racy.  the civic is comfortable and affords the driver outstanding outward visibility. It comes standard with side-impact airbags and other safety features that are optional on competitive models.  the 2008 lineup includes a new leather-upholstered ex-l model and a hot mugen si sedan, with high-performance suspension, forged aluminum wheels, aerodynamic body styling, and a sport-tuned exhaust.  civic was last restyled and reengineered for 2006, and the sporty si coupe was reintroduced at the same time. The hybrid features dramatically reduced emissions, and it delivers an epa-rated 40/45 mpg city/highway, second only to the toyota prius.  a natural gas-powered civic, the gx sedan, is available to residents of california and new york, but can also be found in fleets there and elsewhere. lineupthe 2008 honda civic is available in coupe and sedan versions. A five-speed automatic 800) is optional.  the honda civic dx coupe 14,810) and sedan 15,010) are the base models. Standard equipment is confined to power windows, tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, height-adjustable driver's seat and fold-down rear seatback. The coupe gets a rear decklid spoiler. Brakes are disc in front, drum in rear. P195/65r15 tires wrap around steel wheels with full-cover hubcaps.  the civic lx coupe 16,760) and sedan 16,960) add air conditioning; cruise control with steering-wheel-mounted controls; power door locks with keyless entry; center console with sliding armrest; overhead map lights; and express up/down for the driver's power window; p205/55r16 tires on steel wheels with covers. The coupe has six speakers and a rear-seat walk-in feature that remembers the front passenger seat's setting.  the civic ex coupe and sedan 18,710) add power moonroof; variable-speed windshield wipers; a second 12-volt power outlet; a 60/40 split folding rear seatback; and outside temperature indicator. The keyless remote adds a trunk release button. They come only with a six-speed manual transmission. Other go-fast goodies include a limited-slip differential, sport suspension, electronic vehicle stability assist system with traction control, and p215/45r17 tires on 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside are synthetic suede sport seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob; 350-watt stereo. Packages include high-performance p215/45zr17 tires for the coupe 21,310) and sedan 21,510); xm and navigation 22,860 and $23,060); or with all of the above 23,060 and $23,260).  new for 2008 is the mugen si sedan 29,500), which includes sports suspension, forged aluminum 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels, a full aerodynamic body kit with an adjustable rear wing and diffuser, and a sport-tuned exhaust.  the civic hybrid sedan 22,600) features a continuously variable automatic transmission (cvt), automatic climate control, a roof-mounted radio antenna, a rear decklid spoiler, and hybrid-pertinent digital data displays. The hybrid is also available with the navigation system and xm satellite radio 24,350).  the civic gx 24,590) is essentially an lx sedan with a 1. 8-liter engine powered by natural gas. It comes only with a five-speed manual transmission. It comes with an auxiliary audio input jack for 2008. walkaroundthe honda civic sedans and coupes don't share any body panels. Details and markings distinguish each trim level.    a bright horizontal bar, with a prominent honda h in the middle, dominates the sedan's grille. Slender headlamp assemblies angle upwards as they curve around the fenders. A single, broad air intake fills the lower portion of the fascia.  the coupe grille is more delicate, with the honda logo suspended in a two-tier frame. The central lower air intake opens between two geometric side recesses that feed cooling air to the front disc brakes and house the optional fog lamps. Even more so than with the sedan, the coupe front end pushes the leading corners down and outward, emphasizing the wide track (the distance side to side between the tires).  save for a lower body character line, drawn slightly higher on the coupe than on the sedan, the sides of the civic are more slab than sensuous. Understated fender blisters, more pronounced on the coupe, break up the otherwise featureless expanse. What excitement there is in the side view is in the sleekness of what honda calls a monoform design. A central expression of this is the windshield, the leading edge of which reaches into the hood all the way to the middle of the front wheel wells, pushing the cab-forward design concept to a new extreme. On the coupe, the windshield is raked at a radical 21. 9 degrees; the sedan's at a barely more upright 23. 9 degrees.  the sail panel (the body panel aft of the rear side window) is unique to each model. The coupe's forms an acute angle with the horizontal deck surface, emphasizing the two-door body style; while the sedan's curves down over the rear door's trailing edge, pulling the eye through the higher roofline. The coupe's be-spoilered, rounded rear profile suggests swiftness. The sedan's somewhat abbreviated trunk lid and high, chunky tail end add perceived mass to a tightly proportioned, smallish sedan.  likewise, the rear view of each body style differs markedly. The coupe's sloping trunk lid settles into a deep cut in the rear bumper, with the license plate sheltered in an equally deep recess. The sedan's trunk lid drops in an almost vertical, unrelieved sheer from a relatively high crest across the top.  the si sedan and coupe have another grille variation with a body-color bar on top and a black bar underneath; an understated si badge is tucked away to the far right. An i-vtec label appears just forward of the rear wheel well; on the si sedan it's placed low on the rear door. Both feature subtle body cladding.  the mugen si is more extroverted, distinguished immediately by its bi-plane rear spoiler and aggressive aero extensions all around the lower body and a diffuser in the rear bumper. Up front is an all-black version of the si grille that looks weirdly like parted lips wearing goth-black lipstick; a mugen badge beckons from the upper right lip. Businesslike 18-inch, seven-spoke wheels, open in design to show off the brake calipers, complete the mugen ensemble. Honda promises to limit production to a maximum of 1000 for the model year, all painted fiji blue pearl.  the hybrid, in contrast, is understated, with just a small 'hybrid' badge under the right rear taillight. The dx edges more toward spartan inside, while the ex heads toward lush. Fit and finish meet honda standards. Plastic trim elements look high-grade, although the multi-piece dash invites concern about high-mileage squeaks and buzzes.  seats are comfortable, not plush. The fabric upholstery feels durable, and its robust nap assists the modest side and bottom bolsters in restraining occupants during spirited motoring. Seat bottoms provide better than average thigh support. The manual height adjustment on the driver's seat pivots on front hinges, forcing drivers to choose between seat height and legroom. The si and mugen models get sport front seats with synthetic suede upholstery and more aggressive bolsters both bottom and side for improved support.  the view out the front, with the expansive windshield, low cowl and sloping hood, is unparalleled in the class. A commensurately low beltline would enhance side vision, but otherwise there's little about which to complain. Tiny front quarter windows on the sedan, necessary to allow the front door windows to roll all the way down, push the side view mirrors a bit too far rearward for quick and easy glances at neighboring lanes.  controls are for the most part where they should be, but not necessarily as they should be. There's little symmetry in organization or shape of features and interfaces. It's not an unpleasant look, but one that requires some acclimation. Despite the seeming logic of the two-tier instru.
